Life, between -40 and +50 °C
Presented through the eyes of a seasoned, independent traveler. This blog appreciates the valuable difference made by individuals, communities and organisations towards limiting habitat and biodiversity loss. It seeks to highlight the benefits of a healthy natural ecosystem in mitigating the humanitarian challenges posed by habitat loss and human induced climate change.
This blog site aims to:
- Introduce non-mainstream endangered species and habitat restoration programs, that promote awareness of the challenges facing natural ecosystems
- Promote discussion on the energy mix required to power an exponentially increasing human population and the impact of energy production on natural ecosystems
- Reflect on the application of selected UN Sustainability Goals, through observation of their implementation in nature reserves and communities
- Comment on the use of energy within local populations and discuss concepts capable of reducing environmental impact in an economic manner
- Promote discussion and debate on the value of a natural ecosystem within the framework of our modern busy lives and pressures
- Retelling stories and highlighting novel experiences of a particular location
- Comment on life from a social, economic and environmental lens
Within the spectrum of -40°C to +50 °C. Featuring stories ranging from snow camping in a Russian wilderness to working on an Iraqi compressor station, and all the ecosystems in between.
Through these stories, I aim to reach out to those who have noticed the environmental damage caused by our lifestyles and the affect on the creatures and ecosystems with whom we share our Planet. And to discuss options for mitigating these effects within our present quality of life and social development limitations.
It presents situations in an unbiased view, communicating raw observations, and attempting to outline key environmental challenges. Then weaving together solutions and practical examples of their application, for potential application in other regions faced with similar issues.
This is not a paid blog. It aims to steer interested readers to information, organisations, and ideas in the environmental preservation space. It attempts to build a story line as to where organisations and ideas fit in to the global solution to climate change, biodiversity preservation, habitat restoration, and the resultant humanitarian challenges.
The programs below provide opportunities to witness and be involved in the activities available to address their individual Environmental Challenges.
- Fuze-Ecoteer – Malaysia
- Turtle conservation
- Sea-grass monitoring (Food-Web preservation)

- Energy Efficiency – Global
- Ecosystem continuity within an exponential human population growth future
- The Energy Mix and Ecosystem Hotspots
- Developing clean energy solutions for developing or displaced communities
The 2015 Paris Agreement is a driver and key reference and my most inspiring clause is:
Article 7, paragraph 5:
‘Parties acknowledge that adaptation action should follow a country-driven, gender-responsive, participatory and fully transparent approach, taking into consideration vulnerable groups, communities and ecosystems, and should be based on and guided by the best available science and, as appropriate, traditional knowledge, knowledge of indigenous peoples and local knowledge systems, with a view to integrating adaptation into relevant socioeconomic and environmental policies and actions, where appropriate.’
UN Sustainability Goals to be referenced
- Goal 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation
- Goal 7 – Affordable and clean energy
- Goal 12 – Responsible consumption and production
- Goal 13 – Climate Action
- Goal 14 – Life below Water
- Goal 15 – Life on Land
This will be a three year effort to populate this site with stories to reflect life between -40°C and +50°C and all the ecosystems in between.
Select a topic from the drop-down menus above and read the story penned following reflections on time spent in that place, on seeing a particular animal in the wild, participating in a particular environmental program, or having a particular experience.
Site launched 22nd February 2020.
Respectfully yours,
